Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK AFTER 12:00 AM THE DAY OF SURGERY. NO FOOD, GUM, CANDY, GUMMY VITAMINS OR SMOKELESS TOBACCO. ALSO, NO LIQUIDS, NOT EVEN WATER, EXCEPT A SIP OF WATER ONLY TO TAKE REGULAR MORNING MEDICINE UNLESS DR. GUNN INSTRUCTS YOU TO DISCONTINUE A MEDICATION. PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE MEDICINES UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY DR. GUNN. TAKING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION AND THYROID MEDICATION IS IMPORTANT.
- IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR AN ADULT DRIVER WITH A VEHICLE TO ACCOMPANY YOU AND REMAIN AT THE FACILITY DURING SURGERY AND TO TAKE YOU HOME AFTER SURGERY AND STAY WITH YOU FOR 24 HOURS. IF YOUR DRIVER LEAVES, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START YOUR SURGERY. AN ADULT WOULD BE A PERSON 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.
- Wear loose comfortable clothing and a short sleeve shirt. Please DO NOT wear FLIP-FLOPS.
- No herbal supplements, vitamins, protein shakes or energy drinks for 2 weeks.
- Leave all valuables at home, including jewelry. The office will not be responsible for loss or theft.
- Remove all makeup, contact lenses, ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAILS, OR FINGERNAIL POLISH prior to the surgery date.
- If asthmatic, please bring inhalers, even if you do not use them regularly.
- If Diabetic, bring diabetic monitor.
- Please bathe or shower prior to your surgery with antibacterial soap.
- In case of surgery cancellation or rescheduling, please call our office 24 HOURS prior to your appointment time, if possible.
- Please allow 2-3 weeks for healing prior to leaving town.
- If you suspect you may be pregnant please contact the office prior to your dental procedure.
